The Ultimate Food Scouts Guide to Barcelona: 31st July – 6th August 2017

It’s Monday and there’s no time to feel sad because there’s a bunch of awesome things happening this week in Barcelona. Here’s our picks of some of the things that we think sound the best. If you don’t agree, they you can go away. Let us know if you try out any of our recommendations!

MONDAY 31ST JULY

Believe it or not pizza, whiskey and rock’n’roll are on the cards for today if you head to Vicino Pizza Bar (68 Passeig de Joan de Borbó) plus you’ll be near the beach. The event starts at 8pm and is free to attend with DJs spinning old rock’n’roll, r’n’b and garage music on vinyl alongside Cinzano whiskey cocktails for only €6. Sounds good to us.

Monday nights also means Game of Thrones night, so if you missed it last week there’s another chance to watch the show live in an Irish Bar with meat pies and big pints if you head to Shenanigans.

TUESDAY 1ST AUGUST

How about a free cinema visit? You can go catch David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive today at Cera 13(13 Carrer de Cera) I can’t tell you what it’s about really, as I haven’t seen it since it first came out and was far to young to make sense of this surreal film set in Hollywood. It’s being shown in the original language with Spanish subtitles too which is awesome.

Craft beer and live music are one of our favourite combinations. So if you want to enjoy some acoustic music whilst you sample the menu at La Cervesera Artesana (14 Carrer de Sant Agustí) head there from 9pm to catch Pau Gil (from a band called Black Sandwich, double points for a food themed band name) play acoustic.

WEDNESDAY 2ND AUGUST

Every Wednesday is Mojito Night at TOC Hostel & Suites ( 580 Gran Via de les Corts Catalane) ideal if you’re travelling and looking to save money whilst meeting some new people, you can grab a mojito for only €4 from 7pm with their terrace open from 9pm.

Want to catch some FREE stand-up comedy? Head to Craft Barcelona (4 Carrer del Paradís) from 9.30pm tonight for the bar’s weekly free comedy night.

Patates braves.. Mmm ?#barcellona

THURSDAY 3RD AUGUST

Love tapas but want to try the French version? There’s a great offer on at Ginette (12 Rec Comtal) in El Born today, two classes of wine and a French tapas plate for only €10. The offer starts from 6.30pm and sounds like the perfect chance to try a new restaurant in a beautiful location.

FRIDAY 4TH AUGUST

Want to start off your Friday night in a REALLY geeky way? We honestly cannot recommend Gigameish (8 Carrer Bailen) enough, it’s an awesome shop that sells comics, traditional games and books as well as being the company behind bringing a Spanish translation of both Game of Thrones and Magic the Gathering to Spain. From 5.30pm you can head to this nerd heaven to either learn how to play Magic the Gathering or meet other players for a game or two before heading out to one of the below. This happens every Friday.

Good beer and good tunes at happening at Olgod (74 Carrer Hospital) tonight (although you’ll get that combination all the time at this place really) they have DJ Pan (hooray for more food themed music names!) and La Escuela del Groove spinning funk, hip hop, disco and fat bass, don’t know what that last one means, but at least it’s not techno. If you haven’t been to Olgod before, you might like to head there for 10pm.

It’s Friday, we have a weird history with gin, but we also love Mikkeller (202 Carrer de Valencia) and fruit so we’d recommend checking out Sour’n’Jeans Beer Cocktail Night where the team will be combining Simcoe Dry Hop Gin with one of three Berliner Weisse sour beers: Yuzu, Raspberry or Apricot. Sounds pretty incredible to us. Also, the location of this bar is a perfect starting/ending point for a little craft beer pub crawl!

SATURDAY 5TH AUGUST

Today’s alcohol of choice will be Sake if you head to ta secret location in the Poblenou region of the city. Master Sake brewer, Masaru Terada from Terada Honke sake brewery visits La Nave de Sake today to present some of his natural brews alongside a tasting menu created by Sebastian Mazzola. It’s pricy at €80 a ticket, but sounds like it’s going to be pretty special. If you can’t make this event, keep an eye on the brewery for other private dinners and tasting events.

Looking for vegan treats? You won’t want to miss Feria Vegana at Casal De Barri “Pou De La Figuera” (70 Carrer Sant Pere Més Baix) today from 2pm there’s a whole host of stalls selling food, cosmetics, clothing and more as well as a rock band playing at 7pm. Check their Facebook event for the full programme of the day.

SUNDAY 6TH AUGUST

Not much is occurring today, although the weather forecast is predicting that Sunday will be one of the cooler days of the week, so perhaps a wander around the parks and gardens of Parc de Montjuïc with a picnic might be fun. Otherwise stay home and catch up on some TV shows and films you’ve missed.  It’s Six Feet Under, Preacher and Black Books for us at the moment. Hit us up on Twitter or Instagram if you want any specific recommendations.

Think we missed something rad? Let us know, or don’t either way is good with us. Enjoy your week!
